AMREP HISTORY

Amrep was founded in 1976 and over the last 40 years has become one of the leading refuse body manufacturers, introducing numerous innovations to the waste hauling industry, many of which have become industry standards.

Amrep’s rich history is a true American success story, born of hard work and a passion for America. After immigrating to the U.S. from Argentina in 1968, Jose Ghibaudo and his brother went to work as welders for a company that built refuse trucks. A few years later they decided to form their own company to repair the refuse equipment they knew so well. As proud residents of the United States, the brothers showed their patriotic spirit by naming the company American Repair, which was eventually shortened to Amrep when they incorporated in 1976.

In 1993 the Ghibaudo brothers ended their business partnership, but Jose continued to run Amrep. Jose’s children Alex Ghibaudo and Vivian Ford, who joined the business in the 1980s, along with Eric Mattson, who joined in 1991, eventually took over company operations, growing the business over the past two decades to 5 locations in 4 states and over 250 employees.

Despite its growth, Amrep’s rich history of pride in ownership and obsessive dedication to understanding our customer’s needs, along with a focus on delivery of the highest quality products, still continues today.
